Cisco Certified Network Associate Program

The Cisco Certified Network Associate program at Colorado Mountain College is a complete, four-course program that covers the principles and practices necessary to design, build, and maintain networks capable of supporting national and global organizations. Upon successful completion of the program, graduates are prepared to take the industry-standard CCNA examination. The Cisco Certified Network Associate program is offered at the Glenwood Springs Center. You can complete this program in a short 9 months.

New for 2007-2008

The 4 CCNA courses will be offered as distance/hybrid classes. Students will study a web based curriculum to obtain knowledge. For hands on experience students will complete labs on their own with the help of the instructor and other students. Students will commuincate with remote students via a web portal called Blackboard. Blackboard will be used as the main communication device between instructor and students. Announcements, grades, assignents, syllabus, etc will all be posted on Blackboard. See http://coloradomtn.blackboard.com/.

Students may need to drive to Glenwood Springs on occasion, or they will use CMC equipment at the site closest to their home campus, if it is possible. Other options include e-labs and Packet Tracer 4.1, which are lab simulations that simulate real equipment.

Students will still be required to come to class 3 times per course. There are 4 courses. Students will use class meetings to ask questions, get hands-on experience with networking equipment, take hands-on exams, and communicate with each other and the instructor.

One of those meetings will consist of the final exam, hands-on portion. All other multiple choice exams, including the multiple choice final exam will be taken either from the student's home computer or at the student's home CMC site.

CCNA I will be offered Fall 07. The 3 class meetings will be held in the afternoons on Weds.

CCNA I and CCNA II will be offered as 15 week courses starting in Fall 07 and Spring 08 and again in Fall 08 and Spring 09. CCNA III and CCNA IV will be offered as 15 week courses starting in Fall 08 and Spring 09. Students will proceed at a uniform pace and read material and take tests as assigned. This is not a self paced curriculum. Students are encouraged to keep up. Students failing to complete one of the classes will not be eligible to complete the next class in the series. If a student is late in completing one of the classes, they will have to wait a full year to sign up for the next class in the series.

*If there are enough students at the remote site, room available at the remote site, and enough equipment to loan the remote site, it may be possible to place some equipment at the remote site.
